Designing a frontend experience from a full stack (client and server-side) perspective can be a bit daunting. It’s convenient to shunt thoughtful, catered design aside for something plainer and more organizational with the myriad frontend frameworks and prebuilt themes.
While as a prospective full-stack web developer, I don’t think it’s wrong to solely incorporate flat or minimal design, it’s important to design with strong direction. In my case, that direction is creating experiences that are snappy and user-friendly, but also homely and organic. I take my inspiration from industrial designers like Emilio Ambasz who did the “green-design” for Fukuoka Prefectural International Hall. Industrial design is not so far removed from web design in this age, and bridging the gap between formal and familiar is something I strive for in all aspects of my work.
